Intro
Whenever a file is edited, there’s a risk that the formatting will change as well. The Exfluency™ system processes the formatting within a source file. It then ensures that the output target file matches the original (source file) formatting.
The objective is to verify the attributes and ensure that the correct format is applied to the target text. The formatting is, therefore, preserved throughout the subsequent stages of the project and reflected in the final target file.
Formatting warning
A thick, blue line underneath a word/text indicates that this part of the text in the source file has an additional formatting, different from the style of the entire paragraph, e.g. fonts, bold, italic, underlining, etc.
Check the source text to see exactly where the attribute/s should be placed.
NOTE: The ID number in the target text should match the ID number from the source text. ID numbers are further explained below.
Placeholders
Placeholders are displayed with a square number. They refer to file elements such as hidden text, pictures, emoticons, or comments (from the source file) within the asset. There can be several placeholders in one asset.
NOTE: Placeholder #3 needs to be placed; drag’n’drop it into place, referencing the source text.
Note that placeholder #4 has already been correctly placed by the system.
Placeholders - how to place them
Most of the times, placeholders are implemented automatically by the system to the target text. In some cases, however, they require to be manually restored by an Enhancer or Trust Miner.
Always check the source asset (Ctrl/Command + S) to see where a placeholder should be inserted.
In order to apply a placeholder, drag-and-drop it into the required position.
NOTE: Sometimes it is necessary to type in an additional space character in the place where a placeholder is supposed to be dropped, especially at the end of a sentence. See the example below, where an additional space character has been introduced in order to place the placeholder 1 in between two spaces.
How to change attributes
If the system has not recognised all attributes from the source asset in the target asset, a warning box will show when you work on an asset. This gives you information about how many attributes need to be placed in the target text.
To see what needs to be formatted in the target asset, hover over the source text underlining.
To place the attribute, highlight the correct target text and click on Add formatting:
This opens a pop-up from where you can select the correct attribute. As you can see, the ID number matches the ID number from the source text. Also, a short excerpt from the source text is shown to clarify that the ID number is correct.
When you select the attribute, it underlines the target text, and you can complete the asset.
When and how to act on it
Enhancement
Enhancers must check if there is a warning that attributes are missing from the target text.
Trust Mining
Trust Miners must check everything, i.e. open the source and ensure the attributes are placed correctly, whether a warning is shown or not.
